What are the benefits of a soft pellet diet? Our soft, sinking pellets are uniquely designed for ease of digestion. Their soft nature means they compress within the buccal cavity of the fish, making them easy to swallow. Once the pellet reaches the gut, its malleable consistency ensures that is then easily digested. Vitalis pellets do not sit on the surface of the water. They sink beneath the surface, allowing fish to feed in a natural manner as the pellet descends. This ensures they do not take in air through feeding at the surface.

What ingredients go into Vitalis diets? All of the high quality ingredients that go into our fish food are sustainably sourced and are mostly human-grade. These include: Whole Fish Meal - Our fish meal uses the whole fish, not trimmings and off-cuts. This ensures carnivorous and omnivorous species receive the correct nutritional profile they reuire for optimum growth. Algae - We source a variety of types of sustainably harvested algae to ensure our products include a high quality blend of nutrients, minerals and trace elements required by herbivorous and omnivorous fish. We also include spirulina in our freshwater diets. Shrimp, Mussel, Krill & Squid - Incorporating specific natural proteins to our diets, these bio-available components also aid in making Vitalis feeds more attractive and palatable to carnivorous and omnivorous species. Fish Oils - We utilise a blend of fish oils, which are food grade ingredients for maximum quality. These aid the production of our unique soft pellet and deliver your fish the energy and essential fatty acids they require for growth. Natural Pigments - Astaxanthin and canthaxanthin, found in crustaceans, which promote a healthy colouration in your fish.

What is "Inorganic Matter"?"Inorganic Matter - also know as Crude Ash or Incinerated Residue - is a legal term that all pet food manufacturers must declare on their label. It is not an added component, but simply the amount of minerals present within the food, as determind by a set analytical technique. The usual method for determining Inorganic Matter in a pet food is by the incineration of a sample. This leaves behind a residue and it is this residue of minerals that gives the Crude Ash content. By their nature, fish and algae are both high in minerals which your fish require for growth and good health. For more information on the rules and regulations of pet food labelling, you can visit the Pet Food Manufacturers' Association website: Labelling Guide to getting the information you want from your pet food label

Why are Vitalis flakes all one colour? We do not add any artificial colours to our products. All the pigments within our diets are natural to the ingredients used and are what the fish would consume in the wild. These are, by their very nature, not particularly bright and varied colours. This means that every flake within a pot of Marine Flakes, for example, should be the same colour. As should every flake in a pot of Goldfish Flakes, and so on.
